Circle Crios and Izakaya Seki Now Open

Izakaya Seki on V. St. NW
The sister team behind Dupont Circle’s Scion, inspired by successful spots like Bandolero and El Cucho, decided that their own hood needed a venue for tequila-based cocktails and relatively inexpensive Mexican fare. So this week they opened Crios in the space formerly occupied by the shuttered Vento. The low-lit bar lounge area and dining room are warmed by vibrant color accents and art. Braised pork tacos, a grilled corn salad and salmon with roasted chayote squash and pumpkin seed pesto are some of the already buzzed-about plates. We hear that you can also get $4 margaritas through Saturday night, no doubt adding to the buzz (2120 P. St. NW; 202-822-8800).

Japanese Izakaya Seki, just opened in the U Street NW corridor, offers an adventuresome menu with the likes of burdock root, uni, rice balls, pork trotters and soba. There are lots of tempura fried items, sakes and rare-in-DC Japanese microbrews. The two-story setting is simple - a small bar downstairs, bare tables and wood banquette upstairs. Go early or expect a wait (1117 V St. NW; 202-588-5841).

  1. It is El Chucho. Chucho. Chucho. This Olga chick routinely spells dish names, ingredients and restaurant names wrong!!!! Ummmm, maybe an editor? completely loses credibility with the reader when the writer cannot even do the article justice by spelling things correctly!!
