North Beach. As Yogi Berra used to say, it’s so crowded nobody goes there anymore. Well, at least not for old-school Italian like veal Parmigiana and spaghetti and meatballs. And so after 56 years,
Caesar’s Italian Restaurant, one of the last of a dying breed is closing its doors for good after tonight’s dinner service. The family-run restaurant was the real deal with tuxedoed waiters, groaning seven-course set dinners and stiff drinks, and bore the tagline “Eat where the Italians eat.” But with tonight’s closing, restaurants like Caesar’s mainly live on as a shtick on Saturday Night Live.
Do note: the restaurant is completely sold out for their final lunch and dinner and will not be accepting any walk-ins. However, its
Facebook page will remain up for those who want to share their reminiscences. No word on what will replace Caesar’s, but let’s hope it won’t be a farm-to-fork small-plates restaurant.
