Our Lady of California Cuisine's Berkeley temple, aka Chez Panisse, turns 41 this summer, and while Alice Waters is not planning on celebrating on as grand a scale as last year's week-long 40th birthday shenanigans, she does plan on hosting an intimate birthday dinner bash on August 25. The meal, which will be a fundraiser for The Edible Schoolyard Project, will be a four-course prix fixe, overseen by current Chez Panisse co-chef Jerome Waag, for $250 (not including wine, tax or tip), and a rep tells us it promises to be more elaborate than the restaurant's usual $100 a head Saturday night menu. But hey, it's for the children. This one is sure to sell out.
