Campo Pizzeria Sow Seeds to Open in Palo Alto

Not to be confused with Campo Fina (the new Italian small-plates restaurant in Healdsburg) is Campo Pizzeria, this forthcoming Italian offshoot from the team behind Sam’s Chowderhouse slated to open in Palo Alto this fall. The switch from New England seafood shack to artisanal Italian isn’t such a stretch if you recall that owner Paul Shenkman runs the popular Osteria Coppa in downtown San Mateo and was also the proprietor of the Mediterranean-inspired Cetrella for many years.

Campo, whose name means “field” in Italian and reflects the field-to-table approach that the kitchen will take for its daily lunch and dinner offerings, will specialize in thin-crust pizzas topped with both traditional and inventive farm-fresh larder, along with small plates, handmade pastas and other mid-priced Italian specialties. It's setting up shop in the sprawling indoor-outdoor space that previously housed Lavanda and is currently undergoing a design makeover.

Campo Pizzeria: coming to 185 University Ave in Palo Alto this fall.

  1. I miss Lavanda already. Are they moving to a different location?
