One of the funkier local coffee outfits,
Cafecito Organico, is in serious expansion mode. With off-the-beaten-path shops in both Silver Lake and East Hollywood, and stands at the Hollywood, Silver Lake and Atwater Village farmers markets, owners Angel Orozco and Mich Hale debuted a new coffeehouse at the Point Dume Village in Malibu last week. The shop, which is in the same complex as Paul Shoemaker's
Savory restaurant, was designed by co-owner John M. Sofio and his firm BUILT, which is responsible for clubby spots like
Pink Taco Sunset and
Trousdale. We couldn't be happier: Surfers hopped up on really good coffee = even hotter surfers.
The space
is much sleeker than the Eastside locations, constructed with organic materials like washed Douglas fir lumber. It's as shiny as the new espresso machines. The company has SoCal domination on the mind, too. Look for new locations to open at
The Lab in Costa Mesa next week, with others planned for Anaheim, Downtown LA, Echo Park, Venice, Pasadena and Torrance.
This is awesome - they make a great cup of coffee
