Best Thing We Drank: The Cool Mrs. Roper at Big Bar

We're not sure why this is called the Mrs. Roper, the famously frustrated and kind-hearted neighbor from Three's Company - the color? the easy drinking? - but it is, in fact, the perfect antidote to a very hot LA day. It's Big Bar's version of a Negroni, made with gin, Carpano Antica vermouth, Campari, and a touch of grapefruit for zing. The drink is super refreshing, if only that giant ice cube didn't get in the way of good booze. Actually, we would've walked out of there with that ice cube if it we thought it wouldn't melt in two seconds. The Alcove's bar has a great happy hour Monday through Friday (2-7 PM), and while this isn't on that special menu, it's reason enough to stop for a quick cool down.
