What happens when a Chicago Bear and a chef walk into The South Loop? The punch line of this one-liner is not particularly humorous, but it is delicious. Chicago Bear Israel Idonije has drafted chef Alain Njike (Charlie Tortter’s, NoMI) to open Alain’s – a classic American restaurant with global influences.
Alain’s, which is currently in soft-opening mode, features an American menu with dishes like beet risotto, sweet potato gnocci and rabbit loin with eggplant puree. The décor is strictly African - pink and gold hues are prominent in the space, with tribal artifacts and vibrant paintings decorating the walls and the area above the bar.
Behind the bar is a selection of small batch wine, beer and cocktails named after the Chicago neighborhoods. So drinkers can have a beverage inspired by their favorite 'hood while chilling with a few of their favorite football players.
