New York City is already awash in a sea of red sauce, but seeing that Italian is consistently the most popular cuisine in our survey (32% say it's their favorite type of food), there's always room for a few more pasta joints. The last few months have seen a slew of Italian openings - from teeny wine bars serving plates of charcuterie to a casual pizza joint from one of the city's best Italian chefs that's been packed from day one. I know that I am out of touch with the world but these restauranteurs seem to have forgotten the origins of the word "restaurant", a place to be refreshed. Not a single picture shows a table cloth or anything else that would absorb sound and I can only surmise that each of these eateries are deafeningly loud-hardly "restorative". Add to that the closeness of the tables, for those who actually get to sit down, instead of standing up and drinking like a horse in a barn, and no matter how good the food is, I wouldn't patronize any of these places unless I was with people with whom I didn't want to converse or linger with.
