Scoff away at certain Midwestern stereotypes, but there is no denying we Chicagoans love our food. However, it's not all clinking glasses at gourmet meals. Those annoying moments that come with dining can make or break an evening.   2. I don't care how good the food is, if they are playing that hard driving techno music at a level that precludes conversation, I'm not going! Appropriate music for the type of cuisine is fine. Sinatra in an Italian joint for instance. A Chicago restaurant that gets it right is Le Colonial. Big reason to go there.

  4. I disagree with the comments about the Map Room. They have numerous local and national "big brewery" beers along with desirable craft beers. There is no snobbery there...every time I go in I see people drinking PBR from a can!
