6 Most Annoying Dining Moments in Philly (and How to Avoid Them)

How long would you wait for brunch? Photo via 22nd and Philly
Going out to eat should be fun. You’re with friends or loved ones - or perhaps a new acquaintance (first date?) or prospective client - and are looking to relax, please your palate and satisfy your stomach. It shouldn’t be too much to ask to get through a meal without a rise in blood pressure. But no restaurant is perfect, and there are many ways an enjoyable jaunt can be derailed by annoyances. Here are some issues we heard diners sound off on when we recently asked for your pet peeves, and some advice about alternatives. What bothers you the most?

  1. Waiting more than 15 minutes for a table is out of the question. When a restaurant thinks it is so good that they can keep their guests waiting they miss a key element of being the gracious host and move into the area of erogence. I would enjoy a meal of less reputation and more humilility any day.

  2. Sabrina's and Green Eggs Cafe are both BYO. I hardly ever see people with wine, but it's one of the main reasons I'm willing to wait a little while longer.

  3. Sabrina's is open other days when you can often get in much easier. And now they have their new location on Drexel Campus (but no BYOB or liquor license because Drexel owns the bldg.). We were one of Sabrina's FIRST customers on Christian Street and are still regulars!
