Where to Celebrate Julia Child Week Around LA

You already know that restaurants across the U.S. will celebrate Julia Child's 100th Birthday in August, but it's especially poignant here around L.A., especially Pasadena, where the doyenne of American French cooking was born in 1912. There will be a citywide celebration on August 15, Child's actual birthday, culminating in a simultaneous toast at whatever restaurant you might be in, perhaps A/K/A An American Bistro, Bistro 45 or Cheval Blanc. You're even encouraged to wear your best Julia Child outfit, or at least something from the 40s, 50s or 60s. Below, find more restaurants across LA honoring our hometown hero.

Pasadena's Vertical Wine Bistro will have a special menu throughout the entire month of August featuring simple classics: Salad niocise, beef Bourguignon and chocolate mousse. The three-courser is $36 (add $26 for Ampelos wine pairing). At Kendall’s Brasserie Downtown, look for a different Child-inspired dish every day throughout the week of August 7-15. Suzanne Tracht will have something like coq au vin and frites at Jar during the week, as well. You'll also find specials at Bouchon, Tavern, Church & State and Manhattan Beach's Cafe Pierre. We'll have more details as they roll in, and you can see the full list of JC100 participants here.
