A new spot debuts on Third Street tonight,
Duplex, set in the former Barefoot Cafe space. The name derives from the fact that it was once a residential duplex build in the early 1900s, but today it's an open, two-story restaurant (designed by Thomas Schoos, no less) with a large wrap-around patio, a tchotchke-filled dining room, lounge area and an open kitchen. It's all very homey, much like the menu from chef Lauren Cartmel, who's sticking to seasonal Californian-Italian cuisine: Meatball flatbreads, grilled peaches with burrata, and eggplant agnolotti are just a few dishes. Cocktails follow suit. Duplex is open for dinner with lunch and brunch coming soon (8722 W. Third St.; 310-276-6223).
