Weekend Planner: 4 Things To Do For Bastille Day

Saturday is Bastille Day! And yes, people actually celebrate Bastille Day in New York. Restaurants do, at least, and a number of them are having special parties and promotions to lure in diners that may otherwise head to the Hamptons. Check out the below for five picks where you can celebrate liberté, égalité, fraternité. And also drink.

Hotel Americano: The West Chelsea eatery will host a four-course dinner that's paried with Billecart-Salmon Champagne from chef Thomas Boullault from Restaurant L'Arome in Paris. Reservations for that meal, which is $120, start at 6 PM but if you just want drinks head up to the pool at La Piscine, which will host a party from noon til Midnight.

Beaumarchais: This Meatpacking District French eatery knows how to throw a party, and for Bastille Day they'll be playing host to a DJ throughout the day and have a traditional pentaque game setup on the outdoor patio for guests to try. Better brush up on your cochonnet skills.

FIAF Block Party: While it's not actually on Bastille Day, the French Institute Alliance Française is putting together a three-block long fete that will feature bites from restaurants like Rouge Tomate and Brasserie Cognac. The party takes over 60th Street from Fifth to Lexington Aves on Sunday, July 15 from noon to 5 PM. Get more info here.

Tour de France Restaurant Group: The nine eateries in this restaurant group will be serving a special Cochon Frites menu to celebrate Bastille for those who can't make it to the parade on Champs-Elysees. Look for the suckling pig dishes to be paired with fries at restaurants like Nice Matin and Marseille (see the full lineup here). Beer and wine pairings are also available.
