Wake N' Bake Wagon: Food Truck of the Week

The Wake N' Bake Wagon has been roaming the streets of LA since last fall, but we're just discovering it now. One reason: It will be just one of the 100 vendors featured at this weekend's LA Street Food Fest, and that photo up there realllly caught our attention. Owned by Jon Petr and Ryan Brown, a couple of guys who came down from Lake Tahoe just to start a food truck business in LA (Brown is a native), Wake N' Bake is pretty much what the name sounds like: Some breakfast food but mostly stoner food. Or as Petr likes to say: "We serve an eclectic menu as seen through the haze."

For those who don't who don't get the joke, it's really just big messy flavor bombs like the Phat Burger, an Angus patty topped with melted cheddar, grilled onions, smoked bacon and a runny egg on a buttermilk biscut. No sauce, says Petr; the egg does all the work. Or it's the breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs, hash browns, sausage and pepperjack cheese, topped with their signature Fuego sauce, a kicked up salsa made with serrano, jalapeno and habanero peppers. "It's good on everything," says Petr. "But it will hit back."

At the Rose Bowl festival this weekend, they'll be doling out mini versions of the War Pig, a slow-roasted pulled pork sandwich with homemade bbq sauce and pickles. You can find the truck just about everywhere these days, from office park lunches to Eat/See/Hear and other food truck rallies. Simply follow them on Twitter for this week's whereabouts.
