Trend Alert: Boozy Spots For You and the Kids

Family days at Mohawk Bend
What's a parent to do when all they want is a sip of vino but can't find a place to go with the stroller in tow? Much like special mommy (or daddy)-and-me movie screenings, some wine and beer bars around town have created special afternoon and nighttime outings where everyone - the kids, mom and dad, the people who do or don't have to walk around giant strollers - is happy. And it's not just because there's booze involved.

Eagle Rock's Colorado Wine Company teamed up with neighbor Bloom School of Music and Dance for Parents’ Night. Leave the kiddies (ages 3 to 8) for a little music an dancing, and you get a flight of four wines and a cheese plate. Cost is $60 for two people ($45 for singles), all inclusive – the kids dance class, your wine and snacks. Takes place every other Tuesday night throughout the summer; the next one is July 17. Call the Colorado Wine Company (323-478-1985) or Bloom (323-982-1655) for more details and/or reservations.

Starting July 18, Mohawk Bend offers "Summer Stroller Hours" every Wednesday throughout the summer in Echo Park. Parents can let the wee ones roam around in the Ramona Room or on the patio without the eye-rolling hipsters or servers judging them. From noon to 4 PM, any adults who order a lunch-size pizza and beer, glass of sangria or raspberry lime rickey gets a complimentary kid's pizza, mini pint of juice or milk, and a cookie (for kids 6 and under).

Anyone who's been to the Silverlake Wine tastings at Barnsdall Art Park on Friday nights knows that the hottest accessory to have is an incredibly stylish imp by your side. We're not sure if it's because the kids are getting older - thus, running around the grass more than previous years - or if just more are showing up, but it can be a regular Romper Room some nights. It's endearing until you've become a part of the obstacle course a little rugrat created on the lawn. Just take another sip of wine, watch the sunset and revel in your single life a little longer. Free for kids 3 and under; $5 for the older tots.
