Tracking Walter Manzke: Popping Up in the South Bay

While we all wait with bated breath for news of Walter Manzke’s forthcoming Republique, we still get a chance to taste his cooking around town. He’s keeping his knives sharp, so to speak. After a brief stint helping out at Milo + Olive, he’s doing a one-night dinner with Neal Fraser at The Strand House in Manhattan Beach on August 20. The five-course menu - Santa Barbara spot prawn with Thai curry; zucchini and basil risotto; loup de merewith braised little gems; roasted ribeye cap with charred eggplant, tomato confit and savoy spinach; and summer berry tiramisu - will be paired with Plumpjack and CADE wines. There's also a mingling hour and hors d’oeuvres beforehand, and it comes with that view. Starts at 7 PM, costs $150 per person. Reservations are a must (117 Manhattan Beach Blvd.; 310-545-7470).
