The Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Churros and Chocolate at XOCO

Say what you may about XOCO - the line out the door is excessive, the bag-wielding tourists ruin the ambiance - but the second we bit into the light, sweet, messy, churros dipped in bitter, warm, smooth chocolate (the amount of adjectives we can use to describe this experience is endless) all cares faded into sugary bliss.

These loops of fried dough are fresh and light with a slight sweetness that is enhanced by a heavy coating of cinnamon and sugar - seriously, there might still be sugar in our shoes and hair and beneath our fingernails. The dipping sauce is the perfect accompaniment, an authentic bitter chocolate that is heated until it’s the consistency of milk.

Together they are the essential finish to a meal at XOCO, which is difficult after consuming an entire torta filled with carnitas, chorizo or short ribs and covered in salsa. The quest to save room for desert has never been so crucial. They're served à la carte or in an order of three with chocolate dipping sauce or soft serve. The choice is yours to make.
