Taste-Test: McDonald's Chocolate Chip Frappé

If you live in NYC, or just about any other part of the country right now, you may have noticed temps soaring into the upper 90s. So to battle the wicked heat we decided to mosey over to McDonald's and give their new Chocolate Chip Frappé (part of their LTO summer menu) a try. The drink is close to a mocha Frappuccino - containing ice, mocha flavoring, chocolate chips, coffee and some kind of creamy dairy component, topped off with whipped cream and chocolate and caramel syrup. Like many other McDonald's menu items, this one is definitely an indulgence (we don't even wanna know how many calories are in this thing). However, for the amount of calories likely contained, taste-wise it kind of fell short of the mark for us. It tasted like freezer-burned ice cream mixed with Hershey's chocolate syrup, with the coffee flavor itself barely detectable. What did you think of Mickey D's new drink? Let us know in the comments.

  2. I was actually very impressed by it. I've always loved the caramel frappes, but the caramel mixed with the mocha base was fantastic. I'm impartial to the chocolate chips while I'm drinking it, but the semi-sweet chocolate taste it leaves makes them worth the somewhat strange texture :D

  3. We loooooove it! My roommate and I are addicted at this point. I was surprised because I don't usually gravitate to these kind of drinks but I'm so glad my roommie pushed my to trip a sip of hers a few weeks back. The chocolate chips do give it an unusual texture but i'm a fan of all things chocolate (with the exception of bitter dark chocolate) so I don't mind them.

Did I mention that I love , love, looooove it!! lol

  4. Too fattening for the lack of taste...who wants 74 carbs in a small drink?

  5. This is the best fucking thing I have ever ordered at McDonalds. Yes, this is a guy taking time out of his day to post about how good it is on a Zagat blog. I must know how to make these myself once they go off of the menu.
