For all our love of IKEA, it’s hard to imagine that San Francisco is just getting its first Scandinavia-inspired restaurant. Recently opened at the Inn at the Opera (replacing the long-running Ovations), Pläj, a new 50-seat Swede-backed Hayes Valley restaurant and bar (pronounced “play”), features Stockholm native Roberth Sundell’s modern Scandinavian small-plates menu designed for mixing and matching; the kitchen turns out plenty of traditional items - gravlax, lingonberries and the like - but everything is sourced locally and sustainably. The 44-seat posh dining room is filled with hardwoods, the requisite orange appointments and an eight-seat bar that stocks only Scandinavian beers along with European spirits like Bols Genever and absolutly, plenty of vodka.
Pläj, 333 Fulton St.; 415-863-8400 open for dinner nightly from 5-11 PM

Hurra!
ReplyDeleteA unique find in a restaurant heavy city. Refreshing dishes and portions not over filling. Service was very good for a new establishment. An obvious improvement would be ironed tablecloths.
