Philly Vendy Awards: Who Won, What Was Served, Where to Find More

If you didn’t make it to West Philly on Saturday for the second annual Philly Vendy Awards, you missed some great food and a lot of fun. Happily, you can sample the participants’ wares whenever you happen to be out and about, as all dozen trucks are found regularly around town. At Saturday’s event, which was fundraiser for The Food Trust, even a short summer downpour couldn’t bring the mood down - umbrellas were popped open, tented seats were filled and eventually, The Smoke Truck was crowned winner of the Vendy Cup.

A panel of judges, including cheesesteak king Tony Luke Jr., Midtown Village maven Marcie Turney and Eater Philly editor Collin Flatt, suffered through 12 courses of food that could have come out of the finest kitchens in the city, yet were prepared in cramped quarters on wheels. The judges faced a tough decision - yes, we were eavesdropping - but Mark Coates’ BBQ won the day.

On the sweet side, the inventive frozen flavors of Lil' Pop Shop took the top prize, and the People’s Choice award went to Vernalicious, whose food is almost as comforting as Verna’s bubbly personality. Check out the slideshow below to see everything that was served and find out where you can catch up with these trucks in the future.
