Newcomer Hayes Valley Bakeworks Offers Carbs and Goodwill to Gough

If the idea of philanthropy isn’t enough get you out of bed in the morning, new nonprofit bakery and cafe Hayes Valley Bakeworks sweetens the deal, pumping out housemade pastries like maple bacon cinnamon rolls, Four Barrel coffee and Kombucha on-tap in the morning, followed by an affordable rustic American cafe menu featuring a daily potato-quinoa-crusted pizza, seasonal sandwiches on fresh-baked bread and a “celebrity soup” section employing recipes from local chefs; the 1,800-square foot sunny corner storefront, outfitted with reclaimed wood cabinetry and a wall of vintage rolling pins, doubles as an employee culinary training program for people with disabilities who are homeless or at-risk, and is open continuously on weekdays from 7 AM-7 PM, 8 AM-3 PM on Saturdays.
