Some news coming from the land of empire building, and it's a biggie: chef Michael White is gearing up to open yet another new restaurant, this time on Madison Avenue. The Italian chef just opened Nicoletta in the East Village, and today the food world is in a tizzy because he has taken the lease at the Centrolire space on the Upper East Side. Diner's Journal reports that the location will house a spinoff of his NoLita Italian Osteria Morini, but it will be more upscale and carry the moniker Ristorante Morini. The plan is to appeal more to the ladies who lunch and less to the downtown set. A broader menu is also in the works - no word yet on the opening date.
