Jezebel, a new restaurant that's debuting in SoHo this Thursday, may feature a kosher menu from culinary director Bradford Thompson, but don't expect matzoh ball soup and latkes. The eatery is focused on Modern American cuisine, eschewing Jewish classics for more modern fare that just happens to be kosher. Think dishes that you would see at non-kosher joints, like a roasted bone marrow with parsley, pickled onions and toasted breadcrumbs or a Shabazi-spiced beef tartar with chive flowers and purple potato chips.
The room itself does play with Jewish culture though, the custom artworks created by New York artists contain some Jewish cultural icons superimposed over other famous images. Yep, that would be Mayor Mike Bloomberg's mug on George Washington's body and Larry David's face on the Last Supper. The two-story space features seating for 150 and will also pour a wide selection of kosher wines (323 West Broadway).
