Grass Fed Still Going Strong Amid Rumors of Walk-Out

This morning, The 312 Dining Diva reported the entire staff of Grass Fed, the new steakhouse in Bucktown, walked out with the chef. She equated the even with the scandal surrounding Black Sheep, a restaurant which closed in September after multiple walk-outs.

This rumor was based on a tip from an “Ultimate Insider,” but after we contacted general manager Josh Schonfeld and partner Scott Kay, it was confirmed to be nothing more than a rumor.

Grass Fed, which celebrated it’s grand opening on Saturday, has let go its chef Cody Butler who took his sous chef and a line cook with him upon his departure. The remaining 27 staff members are still employed at the restaurant and the chef has been replaced by chef Dirul Shamsid-Deen.

“We have a very specific product that we are selling - we have a very specific menu, and for some people that doesn’t provide enough variability in terms of what they want to cook.” Kay said. “At the end of the day our concept is around simplicity and we want a chef and a kitchen staff that understand that concept and are happy to execute on that level.”

Kay assured us that he is very happy with the team currently in place that will launch their brunch service this weekend and lunch and breakfast on the next month.
