| Extra Place |
If you've stomped around the East Village, chances are you noticed Extra Place, a half-a-street nestled between Bowery and Second Avenues on First Street. It looks more like an alleyway than anything, but two new restaurants are set to add some live to the strip when they debut next week. The first is Extra Place, which will feature a Mediterranean menu with a focus on döner, a type of German-meets-Turkish Street food. The snacks are made on four rotisseries in the open kitchen (thankfully they are not powered by
dog wheel) and will be laid out with housemade pita bread, and there are a number of entrees for two along with beer, aperitif cocktails and wine.
This spot has a sister restaurant dubbed Heidi, a tiny Swiss eatery that will serve fondue, beer and wine in a room full of copper pots and taxidermy on the walls. The two establishments share an entrance and both will be open to 2 AM. If it's not sweltering out, you can snag a seat outside on narrow lane. The first restaurant is located at 8 Extra Place and Heidi is at 6 Extra Place.
