First Look: Banca Opens in London

It has been said that restaurateurs Arjun and Peter Waney (Zuma, La Petite Maison, Aurelia, Roka) can do no wrong. And Banca - their latest opening - has the chance to prove that to be true once again.

The Food:
In the kitchen you'll find chefs Marzio Zacchi and Gabriele Milani preparing Northern Italian cuisine using fresh, local and seasonal produce. Standout dishes include lobster salad served with thinly sliced peaches; crispy courgette flowers stuffed with prawns; and potato gnocchi with Taleggio cheese, girolles and summer truffles. There is also a bar where diners can snack on small dishes 'Milan style' (standing up).

The Atmosphere:
Located in a former NatWest bank, the space is bright and airy, featuring big windows and alfresco seating. Marble floors, statement chandeliers and hints of gold are glamourous but not distracting. Some of the original bank features have been retained, including functioning safety deposit boxes and a vault door. The private room downstairs is not open yet, but will seat 16 with a one-sided window looking onto the open-plan kitchen (one of the biggest in London).
