Feel a Little French With Bastille Day Celebrations

Everyone is excited to celebrate Bastille Day, except this lobster at Maison
In the sequence of adopted American holidays - think St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo) - Bastille Day is the only one that speaks to our inner gourmet (rather than our inner beer-chugging, tequila-shooting college student. We gluttonously accept any excuse to load up on butter, French fries and champagne. Joining us in celebrating the storming of the Bastille are five restaurants with French National Day specials.

It’s a French celebration at American prices - half-price raw bar! Beginning at 4 PM on Saturday, the seafood selection from the grand platter to poached shrimp and iced oysters will be half off (312-241-1540).

French Market
Offering a rousing salute to France, international singer Greta Pope will serenade shoppers as they forage the French Market, including Pastoral which will be highlighting their selection of French wines and cheeses (312-575-0306).

Go French alfresco with cocktail specials on the patio including a Bellini made with champagne and fruit puree for $6 or a classic Panache made with Kronenbourg and Sprite for $3 (773-334-5664).

The $39 three-course menu is available all weekend and features a festive finish of blue, white and red baked Alaska - made with blueberry fruit salad, vanilla bean ice cream and Nichols Farm strawberry coulis (312-944-8400).

Mon Ami Gabi
Bastille is a weeklong celebration thanks to a special menu available from tomorrow until the 18th. It includes a chilled pea soup with radish and mint, and arugula salad with duck confit and grilled peach, a classic Bouillabaisse with fresh seafood and smoky rouille as well as a lemon tart (773-348-8886).
