Chef Farid Zadi and wife Susan Park - both from Culver City's recently shuttered Cafe Livre - are now making Korean fried duck, pork confit bossam, kimchi bacon sausages and paella at their new Spanish Fly Gastropub. Located in the the Mercury Building at the corner of Western and Wilshire, the grand opening party takes place on Saturday (July 21) from 6 PM to midnight with food and drink specials (3800 Wilshire Blvd.; 213-412-2992).
Couldn't be a more perfect weekend to try out something from our summer cocktail menu. Add to the list something like the bourbon-Aperol-rhubarb or gin-carrot-ginger numbers from Michael Voltaggio's ink.; or sip Fortified Lemonade (Hangar One vodka, lemon, honey, orgeat and bee pollen) on the Blue Cow Kitchen patio.
If you have room after hitting any of the many food festivals this weekend, go and kill some AYCE crawfish on The Foundry patio. Chef Eric Greenspan and crew has all-you-can-eat crawfish for $25, plus jambalaya, Hurricanes and live music by the Mudbug Brass Band from 5:30-8 PM (7465 Melorse Ave.; 323-651-0915).
