Closings: Gravy, Mama's Food Shop and Dragonfly Bite the Dust

Some notable closings to report early into this week - first off, 15-year-old comfort-food staple Mama's Food Shop's East Village location shuttered on Sunday night. Owner Jeremiah Clancy posted a sad letter explaining how rising rents, expenses and taxes made it "just too damn hard" to keep the restaurant open. Read the full letter here.

Via the restaurant's Facebook page, the barely year-old, 6,000 sq-ft. Southern restaurant Gravy announced it will close on August 3. No explanation was offered but trouble may have been brewing when chef Michael Vignola left the eatery back in December.

The four-month-old Upper East Side Pan-Asianer Dragonfly is also calling it quits, as the restaurant's Twitter page announced today. Chef Cornelius Gallagher reportedly left the eatery three weeks ago to go work for a restaurant group in Long Island. [via Eater]
