Closing Time: Southern Mac & Cheese Store Among Recent Closures

Our future will be slightly less cheesier with The Southern Mac & Cheese Store closed
The Southern Mac & Cheese Store closed its storefront in The Loop this weekend, according to the 312 Dining Diva. The Southern Mac & Cheese Truck will continue to deliver truffle white cheddar mac and Mexican chorizo mac to the streets of Chicago, but will now solely operate out of The Southern in Bucktown.

The most dramatic closure of the week goes to Barry’s Spot Pizza that was forced to cease operations due to health code violations including over 30 observations of rodent droppings, according to Edgeville Buzz.

Grubstreet reported on the closure of Canady le Chocolatier, which shut down their locations in the South Loop and The French Market.

A posting on Everyblock led to speculation about what will go into the space occupied by the soon-to-close Ciao Napoli. One commenter who contacted the restaurant said the closure is not voluntary. Another commenter who questioned an employee at the restaurant claimed the restaurant was bought by another local restaurant with an extensive wine list (Telegraph sits next door).

Just shy of their 20th anniversary, Gabriel’s in Highwood will close on Saturday. According to Eater, running two restaurants was too much of a challenge for Gabriel Viti, who also owns Miramar and is active outdoorsmen with plans to swim the English Channel and climb K2.

Bleeding Heart Bakery & Café in West Town is breaking ties with its namesake Bleeding Heart. Sunday, they will close and reopen one week later as West Town Bakery & Café. The switch is likely the result of a recent rift between owners Greg Morh and Scott Weiner (Fifty/50, Roots Handmade Pizza) who partnered with Vinny and Michael Garcia (Bleeding Heart Bakery in Lakeview) to open the larger location. Time Out Chicago reported on the shake-up in March.

Other recent closures include Il Mulino in the historic Briggs Mansion to make way for Mr. Chow. Rhapsody closed to re-concept as Tesori in September. LM will close their Lincoln Square location and partner with the owner of Elate in the Felix Hotel to transform the space into LM Bistro. Finally, chef Danny Grant announced he will leave RIA at the end of the month, at which time the restaurant will close.
