Afte 50 Years, Santa Monica's Tudor House Closes This Month

Anglophiles and expats are lamenting the fact that Tudor House, Santa Monica's home for high tea and all things British since 1962, will close its doors on July 22. A note on the website explains that the economy and higher rents are to blame: "Unfortunately the recession became the beginning of the end. We made every effort to help Tudor House sustain itself including opening for dinner but were unsuccessful in this endeavor. Because of the current economy we understand that many of our customers have been unable to support us in the way that they would like." Stop in for your last taste of sausage rolls, meat pies, and scones with Devonshire cream, and a heartfelt goodbye from the owners.

According to Eater, this will be the home a new paella restaurant, Taberna Arros y Vi, from Lazy Ox owner Michael Cardenas and chef Perfecto Rocher. The restaurant is located at 1403 Second Street.
