Vendy Award Finalists Announced, Throwdown on June 24

There is just too much good street food in Los Angeles - from Boyle Heights to Santa Monica and everywhere above, below and in between - that it's darn near impossible to decide which is the best. But the NYC-born Vendy Awards, coming back to LA for its second year, hopes to sort it out at its annual throwdown on June 24. Narrowing it down to seven finalists is no easy feat, but it's a good, albeit small, mix of street stands and popular food trucks: Tacos El Gallito, India Jones Chow Truck, Karina's Food, Buttermilk Truck, Martha's Tamales Organico, The Lime Truck and "El Palomo" Hot Dogs. Some of these we've never heard of, many we love aren't on the list, and others are sort of no-brainers.

Each serves its specialty - pozole and pambozos, Indian frankies, guacamole-topped hot dogs, fried chicken, carnitas fries and more - to hungry hordes and a select group of judges, and one will be crowned the winner. The event takes place at Pan Pacific Park (7600 Beverly Blvd.) from 1 to 4 PM. Get tickets ($40) here.
