RSVP Brings Scenester Crowd, Random Burlesque Shows to SoHo

The can-can at RSVP!
Last night, we dropped by RSVP, a new eatery on Watts Street in SoHo from Jon B. the former owner of Greenhouse and the now-closed Juliet Supper Club. If his nightlife pedigree didn't tip us off to what kind of vibe the place was running with, the bouncer's sneer at our Chuck Taylor sneakers certainly gave us a clue. The room is divided into three areas, a bar, an elevated dining space underneath a mural of the eatery's namesake letters and a sunken well of tables that is clearly the place to see and be seen. As we had a drink the room filled up with the sort of fashionable crowd who doesn't feel complete without an ice-bucket with a bottle on their table (and there were plenty of those to go around).

One thing we absolutely didn't expect? The performances. As we sat there, an announcer came on the speakers: "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to RSVP." Just as we were having flashbacks to our last stint at New Jersey wedding, three burlesque dancers trotted out on a previously unnoticed stage. Good - if there was going to be entertainment, at least it was of the pseudo-scandalous variety. For their first act, the ladies did a can-can style dance. For the second, it was a Chicago-(the musical)style chair dance, and while they didn't go all-out Madonna, they did offer a peek of the bra). Apparently there will be four performances a night - think The Box-lite, with more food but just as much feigned disinterest from the crowd. If you want to RSVP to this joint, it's currently open and located at 15 Watts Street. You might want to leave those sneakers at home.

  2. My colleagues and I went to this place last Wednesday, right after work, because we wanted to have a nice corporate diner in Soho, and heard that it recently opened.
Diner was great actually, I had the Filet Mignon, very nice cooked,,and a side of the delicious Mac&Cheese (definitely a must for me)

But what will definitely remain first is the surprising Moulin Rouge-style show that they prepared for that night. we weren't even aware of it before coming
There is a stage that looks like this restaurant has been created for hosting this sort of events. And I must say it was great; the 3 performers played with the crowd (elegant and fashionable by the way - bring your Louboutins). Diner was then great, service impeccable, bartenders shaking cocktails all night long, and the show was just the ultimate touch. will b back, and will try their brunch!
