The Purple Fig Now Serving Serious Grub In All State Cafe Space

The All State Cafe, a subterranean, UWS watering hole that could lovingly be described as "dingy" closed a while back. While neighborhood drinkers decried the shutter, an off-the-radar gem has been operating in the space for a couple months, and the fare is a big step up from the pub-grub that used to be dished out in the former incarnation. The Purple Fig is running with a "modern bistro" concept and offering French-accented cuisine from chef Conrad Gallagher, who made a name for himself at Peacock Alley in Ireland. He's quite well-known across the pond, having hosted two British television shows and written a few books (and there was a thing where he was accused of stealing some fancy art - but he was acquitted!).

At his new digs he's offering fare like a deep-fried soft duck egg with polenta and blood pudding and a pastrami-style salmon with dijon and dill pickled pear. Yeah, it's not the onion rings that the folks used to scarf down at this location, but is that really something to complain about? The space has also been entirely redone, but it did keep the fireplace, in case you need a little something to hold on to (250 W. 72nd St.).

  1. Hi,

Everywhere he goes he leaves a complete of destruction behind him. Leaving money owed to suppliers, workers and taxes.
This silly little has run from Ireland “twice” and South Africa, leaving millions of debt.
Maybe it would make a better story to expose this “con” for who he is...
I just hope he does not destroy too many more lives.................

And these are just a selection............
