KTCHN Opening The Out Hotel This Friday (Clothing Not Optional)

By James Mulcahy
The folks behind popular Hell's Kitchen restaurant Eatery are gearing up to open KTCHN this Friday, and this one is for the boys. The restaurant is in The Out Hotel, billed as NYC's first gay lodging. Marketing materials call the place "straight-friendly" and the property's Facebook page features naked chorus boys pretending to frolic in the hotel's courtyards (sadly, due to health codes, pants are not optional while in the restaurant). New American fare will be served from chef Dale Schnell, think dishes like braised cherry wood-smoked bacon with artichokes, polenta and blue cheese vinaigrette, Bartender Duane Fernandez Junior will be whipping up the cocktails. The hotel is billing him as the city's "only gay master mixologist" - we weren't aware that being a master mixologist was a thing now, but more power to him.

There is a smaller cafe on the street side that seats 35 and a larger dining room features chenille fabrics and bamboo floors. Once you're done with dinner, you can head next door an grab a few more drinks at XL, the property's large nightclub that has been packing them in since it opened a few months ago. KTCHN is located on 42nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenue (212-947-2999).
