Toy last night, Derek and Daniel Koch were in the house, making the rounds to plenty of well-wishers. Derek was in good spirits with the opening, and confirmed that they are a busy duo these days, as they have partnered with Todd English to take over the Crossbar space in the Limelight Marketplace to launch a restaurant dubbed Chateau Cherbuliez. The eatery, which takes it's moniker from the duo's grandmother (it was her maiden name), will be a complete redo of the space.
Derek said they'd have to rip it all out and start over if the were going to be involved (while teen goths may have felt at home in Crossbar, we can't say we don't agree). The space will feature a "vineyard" - aka a wine bar - on the first floor that will have over 300 varieties of vino. A dining room will take over the second floor and the smallish third floor will house an area for private parties. The Koch boys are going for a "Chateau Marmont" vibe and want to evoke the restaurants that they've visited in France, with Derek saying "I want to bring people to a place where I've been." He promised to keep things tamer than the scene at Toy, with no DJs and a focus on the wine. The restaurant is full steam ahead in the renovation process, and will open in the next few weeks.
