The Hatfields' Sycamore Kitchen Opens This Week

Quinn and Karen Hatfield went from a charming neighborhood Beverly Boulevard bistro to the sexier, much larger Hatfield's on Melrose. Now the duo goes casual again with The Sycamore Kitchen, a breakfast, lunch an light supper spot opening on La Brea at 8 AM tomorrow. The chic-industrial space is all brick, exposed pipes and reclaimed wood, with a large courtyard, which will undoubtedly be the spot for morning coffee and pastries.

The menu is more down-home than Hatfield's, with Stumptown coffee, house-made breads, pastries, meats roasted in-house, and pickles made from scratch. We have a feeling it will be difficult to find a favorite. From Karen (the pastry chef), you'll find salted caramel pecan rolls, fruit tarts and galettes, cookies, sour cherry buttermilk scones, lemon polenta cake, and coconut carrot parsnip bread. For savories, fresh market salads, and sandwiches like charred flank steak with roasted peppers and harissa mayo from exec chef Quinn. Sycamore Kitchen opens daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, and full breakfast and brunch will begin in July.
