Chelsea is about to get a little greener, with a new Green Market that will set up residence in the Chelsea Triangle starting this Friday. Farmers and area restaurants will sell their wares from 10 AM to 4 PM every Saturday and Sunday on this small patch of land, which also plays host to things like dance lessons and food-truck promotions during the week. While it won't be as big as the Union Square market, this should provide a nice alternative to the trek over to the middle of Manhattan for the restaurant and neighborhood residents.
This is actually not a Greenmarket, which is a program of GrowNYC with a mission to support local farmers and preserve farmland and ensure New Yorkers with a continuous supply of locally produced agricultural products. The closest Greenmarket in the area is the one that operates year-round at Abingdon Square and is exclusively local farmers, with weekly compost and textile collections for neighborhood residents.
