First Look: The Polpo Cookbook

With plans for a new Polpo in East London already afoot, the number of fans of Venetian small plates are only going to increase. And, undoubtedly, so will the queues. But, for those who aren't London-based, or don't want to brave the masses, and dare to attempt such fare themselves, the talented Russell Norman has created a beautifully bound collection of recipes in Polpo: A Venetian Cookbook (Of Sorts).

It's not just about the food - although it is packed with 140 recipes that regulars might recognise, including spicy pork and fennel meatballs; chopped liver crostini and cuttlefish in its with gremolata - it's also full of gorgeous photographs of Venice and evocative prose that tells the story of Russell's passion for the place and the food, and creates beautiful vignettes of the people and places who have inspired the recipes. Without wanting to get too sappy, it's as much a love letter to all things Venetian, as it is a recipe book. Here's a sneak peek below...
