The “sublimely conceived works of doughy art” known as Dynamo Donuts |
Yes, there are a zillion donut shops in the Bay Area, but there are really only two you need to care about today. In honor of National Donut Day (which apparently is not just a made-up marketing ploy, but a real holiday that was established by the Salvation Army during World War 1 in honor of the women who distributed donuts to soldiers), many national chains are offering their goods for free (almost).
So if your vice of choice are the fluffy, barely-there confections of Krispy Kreme (and we wouldn't blame you), head to one of the participating outposts where they plan to give away one free donut (of any variety) per customer. (...As if you'd really schlep all the way to Daly City and leave with only one donut).
But if you're sweet taste runs a little, well less sweet (bacon maple or lemon Sichuan anyone?), then skip out of work early and prepare to line up with the throngs of hipsters at the city's premiere donutereria, Dynamo Donuts & Coffee in the Mission, which will be hosting a sorta donut happy hour. From 4-7 PM, DD will be hosting a party on its back patio, doling out free tastes of their “sublimely conceived works of doughy art” along with tasting beers from Marin Brewing Company and Almanac Beer Company.
