DIY Cakes at Duff Goldman's Cakemix, Opening on Melrose

Ace of Cakes' Duff Goldman moved his Charm City Cakes crew to the West Coast, where they've been turning out the over-the-top creations for birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs, and celebrity bashes from Melrose Avenue for a few months. But that bakery isn't open to the public, which we're reminded of over and over again on the website. So if you need a personal Duff sugar rush, Duff's Cakemix, a new DIY cake decorating concept, will open in the next few days.

Consider this the Color Me Mine of cake decorating: They supply all the goodies - the cake, fondant, edible paint - you simply bring your imagination and let your sweets flag fly. Choose from six- or nine-inch cakes (chocolate, marbled, red velvet or carrot), fillings (cream cheese, vanilla, chocolate or a weekly special), and fondant or buttercream frosting for the outside. Colors and decorations are all you, and under the watchful eye and aid of Cakemix staffers, you can create a masterpiece. [Via LAT]
