Cercle Rouge, Bar Tabac and Cafe Noir, has taken over the space at 225 Varick Street (at Clarkson) that formerly housed Steak Frites, Village Lobster and Crab House. He has hired chef Christophe Bonnegrace, and plans to open the Clarkson Social Club in September.
The new spot will be a hundred seat restaurant with a 1940's colonial decor and a large horseshoe bar serving 20 kinds of oysters. "We will have a lots of little plates and appetizers including fish tartares, as well as a selection of organic meats,'' says Forgeois. It's a pretty big space to fill, hopefully he will have more luck than the former two tenants.
