Ceviche Takes Over London

We say 'takes over' and that might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but, seriously, with the amount of delicious marinated raw fish in the capital at the moment, that's how it's feeling.

So we already told you about new Peruvian restaurant Lima that will undoubtedly be doing some variation on ceviche when they open later this year. And you can't fail to have clocked Soho's latest hit, Ceviche. But, if by some chance you've missed it, next week would be a very good time to check it out because they're hosting the inaugural London Ceviche Week.

Basically, every year in Peru, June 28 is National Ceviche Day, so they've sort of stretched the celebration. There will be masterclasses, new menus, music and events and all sorts, and if you can't make it down in person, check out this guide to making the perfect ceviche.

But it's not just the Peruvians getting in on the action. We've been having a little sniff around town and recently checked out the new ceviche specials at Asia De Cuba - the prawn, snapper and confit watermelon (£9.50) was particularly good - and have also heard that Sam's Brasserie over in Chiswick has just added a trio of 'ceviche shots' - beetroot cod, guacamole tuna and virgin mary salmon - all for just £8.

Owner Sam told us, "I first fell in love with ceviche when I worked for Rick Stein down in Padstow where we used to serve a ceviche of brill. I then lived in Sydney where ceviche was often on menus. I love the simplicity, strong flavours, lightness and healthiness. Recently my head chef, Ian, went to Miami and came back with the idea for ceviche shots. We started them on Friday and so far they have been going down a treat."

And, we have to say, they look gorgeous too...
