|Bovolo is closing today. Catch it next weekend in a new location.|
Sad news for pork enthusiasts in Healdsburg. Next Iron Chef competitor Duskie Estes and her husband John Stewart (the formidable duo also behind Zazu Restaurant and Farm in Santa Rosa and Black Pig Meat Company) will be closing their quirky sandwich shop Bovolo this weekend. After seven years of slinging their signature Black Pig specialties from the back of a bookstore, they’re calling it quits.
However, their porcine pleasures aren’t going away for good. According to The Bite Club, John Stewart says they’ll be relocating the bones of the operation to a new spot inside Davis Family Vineyards’ tasting room near the river (at 52 Front Street). The new locale, known as Zazu on the River, will offer an abbreviated version of the menu (still sandwiches, salads and salumis, but no pizzas and ice cream for now) and will only be open Friday-Sunday, 11 AM-6 PM.
Zazu on the River, a co-venture between Zazu and the Davis Family Vineyards, actually sounds pretty cool. It’s being billed as a "demonstration farm and lunch destination," featuring produce prepared minutes after harvest. In addition, there is a bocce ball court, picnic tables and a large shaded deck surrounded by raised vegetable beds.
Today is your last day to pig out at Bovolo, but you better hustle. It’ll be closing at 4 PM.
