The problem with a great taco is that it's gone in just a few bites. This is what we think when we demolish the duck carnitas at
Cacao Mexicatessen, the cute, family-run spot in Eagle Rock. We can't remember if it always comes with chicharrones, but ours did, so we didn't have to order the more evil (but worth every caloric bite) duck skin taco. Instead, we also killed the wild boar chorizo verde taco, and shared some sweet fried plantains. A nice way to while away a late afternoon, or at least share a snack to tide us over until dinner. Oh, and about
those expansion plans - closing the mom-and-pop flower shop and adding a new bar area and more table seating - they are coming along, albeit slowly. Construction hasn't started yet, but permitting is in the works. Cacao is located at 1576 Colorado Boulevard.
