We stopped by DUMBO's much-needed new hot spot
Gran Electrica last night to check how the team behind Brooklyn Heights'
Colonie puts their own gourmet spin on south-of-the-border cuisine. (Added bonus: the large outside seating area here is frickin' gorgeous.) With "upscale" Mexican definitely trending at the moment, Gran Electrica's approach is to use high-quality ingredients to enhance classic dishes like tacos, flautas and gorditas. One of our favorite dishes of the night was the tostada jaiba - peekytoe crab spiked with jalapenos and lime and served with ripe slices of creamy avocado atop a hand-pressed heirloom corn tortilla. The result was a unique spin on the usual tostada or fish taco that we might get elsewhere. Gran Electrica is located at 5 Front Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
