Best Thing We Ate Last Night: Black Hogg's Fried Olives

It's not easy finding something without a speck of meat in it at Black Hogg, not that there's anything wrong with that. The menu at Silver Lake's current critics' darling - both S. Irene Virbila and LA Weekly's new Besha Rodell recently weighed in - is full of rich, fried, umami-soaked dishes from the fried bacon cubes to a delicious lamb burger, and it's all really very good. But we can't stop thinking about one little dish, the fried Castelvetrano olives with honey goat cheese. If there's one thing we've learned about fried olives, the little oily suckers just can't hold their breading. This coating sticks so you get a crunch in every bite. Roll them in the sweet cheese dip and take a bite. Just watch for squiring juices. And the pits. Hopefully that booze license will come through because these scream for a nice crisp pilsner. Black Hogg is located at 2852 W. Sunset Blvd.
