In the "gross but true" department, competitive eating has emerged in recent years as a shamefully big American sport. Restaurants around the country have appropriated an element of it as a patron-attracting gimmick, offering a chance for free food or to put the customer’s picture on the wall as a declaration of extreme food championship. Whether it’s devouring a bowl of soup that’s got four pounds of meat and noodles in it, or contemplating a pizza bigger than a chair, it takes a true eating athlete to consider trying any of these feats of edible wrongness. Do you have a crazy restaurant eating challenge to add? Let us know in the comments.
