5 Spots to Grab a Slice of Pizza in DC

A slice from We The Pizza
Great pizza may be an art form, requiring committed expertise, a hand-crafted oven and just the right ingredients. But sometimes you’re hungry, and simply looking for a slice of ‘za. Here are some quick stops that do the job right:

Fuel Pizza: These gas station-themed fill-ups for pizza and wings in the Golden Triangle, Penn Quarter and Northeast offer NY-style crisp-crusted slices and pies with the traditional spicy, greasy toppings (1606 K St. NW; 202-363-1999; 600 F. St. NW; 202-547-3835).

Mama Lucia: These ubiquitous, suburban Italians also do NY-style pizza, by the slice and whole pie.

Pete’s New Haven Style APizza: These buzzing Connecticut-inspired pie shops, in DC and Clarendon, sell slices as well as whole pies. You’ll be tempted to snack on a gelato while your ‘za heats up (1400 Irving St. NW; 202-332-7383; 4940 Wisconsin Ave. NW; 202-237-7383; 3017 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington, Va.; 703-527-7383).

Vace’s: This veteran Cleveland Park Italian deli was selling crisp-crusted pizza by the slice long before those Neapolitan- and New Haven-inspired artisan pizzerias hit town (3315 Connecticut Ave. NW; 202-363-1999).

We the Pizza: Spike Mendelsohn caters to the slice trade at his Capitol Hill pizzeria with the classics as well as toppings involving BBQ and wings (305 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, 202-544-4008).
