There’s a spate of food related events coming up that are aimed to catch food loving folks before they pack for summer vacations. Don’t worry about getting into that bathing suit, just sip, snack and enjoy.
June 23: Alexandria’s 1st Annual Food and Wine Festival happens in Old Town’s Carlyle District showcasing Virginia wineries, demonstrations and food tastings from the likes of the Clydes at Mark Center and La Tasca, children’s games and live entertainment. Attendance is free, food tickets will be 25 for $20, vino tastes are $10; 300 John Carlyle St.; Noon-5 PM; for information.
: Experience Vietnam without a passport at George Mason’s Vietfest where food vendors, a pho slurping competition, lion dancing, cultural dances, wedding parades, martial arts demonstration, and traditional instrumental performances will transport visitors; 4500 Patriot Circle, Parking Lot K, Fairfax Va.; 10 AM- 8PM; $5 (in advance), or $7.

June 24: Fancy hats are the theme for this year’s RAMMY (Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington) gala where the food and media worlds collide at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel. There’s a cocktail reception, followed by an awards ceremony. Then guests party, with music and dancing, in a loungey setting fueled by food pavilions featuring dishes from sous-vide specialist Cuisine Solutions, and products from Australia, Chile, Virginia and Spain (catered by Taberna del Alabardero); 2600 Woodley Rd.; 6 PM cocktail reception; 7 PM awards ceremony; $300, for tickets and information.
June 26: Chef’s Best will bring some 50 chefs led by chair, John Critchley (Urbana) to the Washington Hilton where they’ll dish up samples while guests sip and circulate. The gala event benefits Food and Friends work helping people battle life-challenging illnesses; 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW; 6:30 PM; $250, for tickets.
